Calvary Downs East Grand

    The undefeated Calvary Chapel Sabres of Orrington came to Danforth looking to keep their record intact. The Vikes were looking to avenge an early season loss. It turned out to be a fans dream as both teams battled down to the final buzzer before the game was decided.

    Playing before a full house, this game had a tournament like atmosphere. It was a contrast of styles with the Sabres sharp shooting outside game against the Vikings dependable inside game.

    Both teams got on the board quickly and at the end of the first period, four players from each team had scored. The Vikes held a slim 15 - 12 lead.

    Kyle Bradford caught fire near the end of the half , hitting four three point attempts as Calvary pulled out to a 38-32 halftime lead.

     East Grand's Darius Parker kept the Vikings close with an assortment of drives to the hoop. He went 5-6 from the line as well as hitting a field goal and dishing out 3 assists.

    The Sabres continued their long range assault in the third period as they hit five more treys, including two more from Kyle Bradford,and  one from his bother Brock. Josh Madden , came alive in this period as he scored 10 points, including two treys.   

    Meanwhile Parker kept attacking the hoop for East Grand, hitting for 14 points in the period and dumping off passes to the 6'5" twin towers Matt Scott and Josh Faulkner for easy hoops. At the end of three it was 58 - 52, Calvary.

    The fourth period saw the Vikes slip to a double digit deficit  As Madden and Brock Bradford kept scoring. The Sabres were getting into serious foul trouble with four players on the floor with four fouls each.

    Eric Hannington floated through the lane to hit a shot that go the Vikes started, Scott had a couple of tips and it was all of a sudden a real close game.

    Kyle Bradford  and Josh Madden both fouled out and the Sabres started to stall a little to eat up the clock, forcing Parker to foul, to put them into the one and one.

    Parkers next fouls was his fifth and he had to leave with just seconds remaining. With 17 seconds left, a third Sabre fouled out and Tyler Dean came into the game. East Grand fouled him immediately. His first shot was short. He hit the second to put the Sabres up by three. East Grand called time out to set up their final play. They got off a three which missed, Josh Faulkner got the rebound and took another hurried three, which glanced off the rim. as players from both teams dove for the ball near the endline, the final horn went off.. The Sabres held on to a 74-71 win.

Parker finished with a game high 36 points for East Grand. Matt Scott added 15

The Sabres were led by the guard trio of Josh Madden with 24, Kyle Bradford with 20 and Brock Bradford with 19.
