May 1 Houlton
The 3rd annual walk-a-thon for the Houlton Humane Society will be held on Saturday, May 1st, 2004 at the Grange on Green Street. Registration starts at 10:00 A.M. with the walk beginning at 11:00. Walk with a dog, walk a shelter dog, or just walk with a friend.  Cats and dogs will be available on site for adoption. A boutique yard sale will be held during this time and a luncheon will be provided, The luncheon is free to walkers and available by donation to others. A volunteer appreciation ceremony is also scheduled.
Come join us for some fun and exercise or bring a new cat or dog into your life. Proceeds will go to help build a new shelter. Pledge sheets are available at many local businesses or by calling the shelter at 532-2862 or Melanie Greaves at 538-8044.  Hope to see you there, Rain or shine!

The American Legion Post #47 on the Bangor Road in Houlton will be hosting a Mother's Day Breakfast from 7am to 12 noon. Mother's Eat Free!
 
     

Ongoing Announcements

Cabin Fever Fitness Guides are now available. The STOP program has produced a booklet containing information on what is available for fitness activities in the Southern Aroostook/New Brunswick area. These free booklets are available at area locations or by calling Tracy Tweedie at 532-0908.

The Maine Bureau of Health, Department of Human Services has launched a Tobacco Helpline for those interested in quitting tobacco use. The number of the new hotline is 1-800-207-1230.

The Aroostook Historical and Art Museum has a new coffee table book featuring a picture history of the Houlton area. For a copy of this book visit the Chamber of Commerce or the Historical and Art Museum. 

Karate Classes for both children and adults take place on Monday Evenings at the Southside School. For more info: call Sensei Patti Swallow @ 532-2421  New members always welcome.
