Central Topples The Lady Shires

1/17/04

Central of East Corinth has lost twice this year. Both came against the Dexter Tigers. Their goal is to meet again for a third time in the Eastern Maine Class C finals.

This afternoon, the Houlton Lady Shires took an early lead behind senior Clair Thompsons' ten first period points. Houlton took a four point lead into the locker room at halftime, 27 - 23.

Central turned the game around in the third period by outscoring Houlton 21 - 12 to take a lead they would never give back. Jenny Rollins had nine points in the period to lead the way.

Scrappy Shawna Bell came off the bench to help spearhead the defensive pressure and was able to add five points in the period.

Houlton struggled to get anything going, until Aimee Guy hit back to back three pointers near the end of the period.

With the Lady Shires forced to foul, Central made the most of their opportunity from the free throw line, going 16 for 19 from the line in the final period to seal the win. Rollins was 10 - 12 in the period  on her way to a game high 24 points.

Rollins was the only one on her team in double figures, but she was supported by seven other players in the scoring column.

Thompson pace Houlton with 17 while Guy added 14. Houlton plays a make up game against Caribou on Monday evening at 7 pm at Alumni Gymnasium
