Veterans Day Message

Posted on November 6, 2012 in News by Fred

veterans_day

Veterans Day is quickly approaching and this year WHOU is celebrating our veterans and service men and women who have dedicated their lives to protecting our country and our way of life.

You can show your support for our veterans and join in the celebration by including your own personal message to our vets and service men and women.  How do you do it?  Call our Veterans Day Hot-Line at 200-5323 and record your message.  We will add your message to our show on Monday.  It’s a great way to show them how much they mean to us.

That message line again is 207-200-5323 and that is an in-State number!

Tribute to Aaron Henderson

Posted on October 3, 2012 in News by Fred

This morning we had a moment of silence to honor Green Beret and local hero Sergeant 1st Class Aaron Henderson who died due to injuries sustained while on active duty in Afghanistan.

Aaron was a member of the US Army A Company, 2nd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group and a Graduate of Hodgdon High School.

After the moment of silence we played the Star Spangled banner as sung by Haven Rhoda at last night’s soccer game in honor of Aaron.

We will miss you Aaron.

The audio file is included below.

It’s that time of year again. How are your leaves coming along? Leave us a comment.

Maine forestry officials say peak foliage colors have begun to appear in far northern Maine.

The state’s weekly fall foliage report says forest and park rangers are reporting that trees are at least 75 percent toward their peak color change with minimal leaf drop in all of Aroostook County.

High foliage color between 50 and 75 percent is being reported in the Greenville and Jackman areas in northwest Maine, while moderate foliage color is being reported in the Rangeley region across the state to the eastern Maine coast.

Southern and central Maine for the most part are experiencing low color change so far.

Houlton, Maine — Riverfront Park has a new visitor.

On Sept. 20, Forest Hart’s fourth of 12 “Bear Tracks” bronze statues was added to Houlton’s Riverfront Park, replacing a moose sculpture created by Glenn Hines.

Hines had leased his sculpture to the town for $1, with an expectation that the Riverfront Park Committee would raise $25,000 over three years to pay for the statute. The moose remained with the town from June 2009 to July 2012, but when the money wasn’t raised, Hines removed his sculpture in anticipation of selling it to someone in Brooklyn.
