If you like the drama of sports, you will love this story that played out at Augusta Country Club.
15-year-old Ruby Haylock (Turner Highlands GC) made a birdie chip shot on the first hole of a playoff to claim the 2020 Maine Women’s Amateur Championship.
Haylock held off 2018 champ Bailey Plourde, a Division III All-American golfer at Centre College in Kentucky.
Plourde birdied the 17th and 18th holes to send the championship to a playoff. Both golfers finished the three-day tournament with 4-over par 223 scores.
On the first playoff hole, Haylock missed the green with her second shot and was in the rough, left of the green. She promptly chipped in for the birdie. Plourde missed a long birdie putt that would have kept the playoff going.
Haylock plays golf for Leavitt High School in Turner and won the 2019 MPA State Schoolgirl Individual Championship.
