After weeks of meetings and planning, the new-look 2020 high school football classification is set with four classes of 11-man football and two classes of 8-man football.
Now schools and leagues can begin the scheduling process.
The Mane Principals’ Association (MPA) send the new alignment to schools this week. It includes an eight-team statewide Class A of Maine’s largest schools. Class B will have a North and South Division made up of nine schools in each division. Class C will also have a North and South Division with nine schools in the North and seven in the South. Class D will be one statewide class of nine schools. And, the 8-Man Class will include a statewide Large School Division with 12 schools and a Small School Division with 14 schools.
Changes for North Region schools include: seven schools from the Little Ten Conference move to 8-Man Small School Division while another LTC member, Ellsworth, will play in the 8-Man Large School Division…MDI, Waterville and Camden Hills will also play in that division.
John Bapst HS will play in the statewide Class D, moving from Class C.
Hampden Academy will play in Class C North, moving from Class B.
