19-year-old Cole Anderson from Camden fired a blistering 6-under par 65 in the final round of the Maine Amateur Golf Tournament on Thursday, leaving not doubt about who is the best amateur player in the state.
He becomes just the ninth golfer in the 101 years of the tourney to claim back-to-back championships.
Anderson’s three-day score was 203 (71, 67. 65), six shots better than runner up John Hayes IV. And, his 10-under par tourney score is best in the history of the event.
The Florida State University golfer played bogey-free over the final two rounds of the tourney.
Will Kannegieser (Martindale CC), Caleb Manuel (Brunswick GC) and Drew Powell (PVCC) round out the top five finishers at Brunswick-Saco CC.
The MSGA Women’s Amateur Championship takes place in two weeks at the Augusta CC.
