Longtime Foxcroft Academy wrestling and soccer coach Luis Ayala is stepping away from coaching. For more than 20 years Ayala has been involved in the two sports from the youth level to the high school varsity level.
As Foxcroft wrestling coach, he led the Ponies to 368 wins and six state titles. Ayala was president of the Foxcroft Youth Wrestling Club.
As boys soccer coach, his Ponies won over 100 games in 15 years as varsity coach. Ayala also was director of the Foxcroft Youth Soccer program.
The decision to step down comes as his oldest son graduates from Foxcroft next month. Ayala says he has been thinking about the decision throughout the spring.
Back in 2017, Ayala won the U.S. Cellular ‘Most Valuable Coach Award’ in a nationwide online vote and helped the school get a $50,000 grant for winning the award.
