UMaine Preseason Favorite, If A Season Happens

For the third straight year, America East coaches have picked coach Amy Vachon and her UMaine women’s basketball team to win the conference title.

The bigger question remains – will be Black Bears be allowed to play this season. That decision rests with UMaine president Joan Ferrini-Mundy.

The preseason poll of coaches shows the Black Bears as the favorite with Stony Brook picked as #2. UMaine and the Seawolves split the 10 first place votes.

The Black Bears return over 80% of their scoring from last year, including the return of Blanca Millan and Fanny Wadling. Both were lost for the majority of the season last year with injuries.

Three UMaine players were picked to the AE preseason All-Conference teams. Millan, along with Dor Saar and Maeve Carroll.

NOTE: The schedule calls for the Black Bears to open the season November 28th vs Mississippi State at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut.
