AE Q-F: UMaine 78 Vermont 66

UMaine junior forward Maeve Carroll posted another double-double as the Black Bears advanced to the America East Conference semi-final round with a 78-66 quarterfinal win over Vermont Wednesday night.

Carroll scored 22 points, hauled down 11 rebounds and had a career-high nine assists against the Catamounts.

She had lots of help with Dor Saar scoring 21, AE Rookie of the Year Anne Simon added 15 and Calais native Maddy McVigar dropped 14.

UVM kept the close until the Bears held the Cats scoreless over the final 3:48 of the game.

The Black Bears are in to the AE semis for a sixth straight year. The playoff game vs UMass Lowell on Sunday will be played at ‘The Pit’ on campus in Orono.

NOTE: The Black Bears lost freshman guard Anna Kahelin with a knee injury with just 22 seconds left in the game. UM coach Amy Vachon admitted after the game that the injury ‘doesn’t look good”.
