MPA Delays Decision On Fall Sports

MPA Wants Clarification On State Guidelines

The Maine Principals’ Association (MPA) has delayed a decision on the fate of high school fall sports, awaiting  further clarification from state officials on guidelines.

The MPA Interscholastic Management Committee met this morning, hoping to reach a final decision.

But in the end, the MPA committee held off and wants to seek clarification on differences in guidelines between the Maine Department of Education safety guidelines and the Community Sports Return to Sports guidelines from the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development.

The difference in guidelines includes differences in face mask wearing and social distancing.

It is not clear when those answers will be known by the MPA.

The MPA had already pushed the fall sports calendar back to September 8th for tryouts and September 18th to start games. The plan calls for a reduction of games and for schools to play a more regionalized schedule.

This story will be updated.
