Memorial Service for “Hope” at the Houlton Humane Society

Join us for a special event that celebrates the life of a true canine hero.   Houlton Humane Society invites you to a Memorial Service for “Hope”, the boxer who captured the hearts of people across the nation.

On Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 1PM, we will gather at the Houlton Humane Society Cemetery, located at 263 Callahan Rd, Houlton.

Why are we coming together?  To honor the memory of Hope, to unite all those who supported her, and to shed light on the critical issue of animal abuse and neglect.

The event is open to the public and we encourage everyone to attend.  Let’s remember Hope and work together to create a world where every animal receives the love and care they deserve.

Obituary
Hope, an irresistible female boxer who captured the hearts of hundreds, perhaps thousands, crossed the rainbow bridge on September 8, 2023. She was surrounded by loving hands and words of comfort as she slipped away from serious complications of cancer.
Approximately 9-11 years old, Hope was rescued and taken to Houlton Humane Society on August 9, 2023. Her condition was dire, yet shelter staff, foster parents, fans, cheerleaders, her vet, and vet staff went to great lengths to make Hope comfortable. Hope’s photographs garnered the love and generosity of friends far and wide, from far corners of this country. If prayers and love could have saved her, Hope would have had an abundance of the cure her body needed. She fought the good fight for four weeks, but she had become exhausted from the cruel effects of her disease.
Hope’s life before she found us will remain a mystery. However, her beautiful face will serve as a reminder of the reason shelters and rescues continue to work tirelessly for the benefit of lost and abandoned animals. It’s with our deep love and gratitude to all of Hope’s friends who made sure she was loved and valued in her final days.
A memorial service will be held at Houlton Humane Society, 263 Callaghan Rd, Houlton, Maine on October 7, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. The public is welcome.
