Trek to Totality: Train-the-Trainer Workshop

January 30 @ 3:30 pm - 7:30 pm

The Great American Solar Eclipse of 2024 on April 8, 2024 is only three months away! Are you ready to help students of all ages, scouts, or club members understand what is going to happen on April 8 in Aroostook County, how to protect their eyes, and what a special once in a lifetime this event will be? The Francis Malcolm Science Center is ready to help you. On Tuesday, January 30, FMSC will be offering Trek to Totality: Train-the-Trainer Professional Development Workshop from 3:30-7:30 PM. Two workshop sessions will be offered, Totality Plus during which you will view the full dome show, Totality (created and produced by HMNS in Conjunction with Rice University and ePlanetairum), and have a chance to go more in-depth with Amateur Astronomer, Jim Stepp. The second session will give you an opportunity to visit eight stations scattered around the Science Center to build a folder of activities that include building models of a total solar eclipse, providing eye safety, what you can do if it is cloudy on the day of the eclipse, viewing solar eclipse books, making solar bracelets, and much more. As an educator, club, or community leader you receive a $75 stipend for coming thanks to the generous grant from the Gulf of Maine Research Institute, earning 4 contact hours, free snacks, dinner, and an opportunity to win a door prize.
For more information or to register, contact Elaine Hendrickson at [email protected]. (Please do not call the Science Center. No one is there to answer the phone. )
