Matt Fleming and Wol Maiwen spent a couple of years as rivals in Class AA North. Fleming with the Bangor Rams and Maiwen with the Edward Little Red Eddies.
Beginning in the fall, the two standouts will become teammates as part of the UMaine Black Bears program.
The 6-6 Fleming won the 2019 Mr. Maine Basketball Award after his Rams won the Class AA state title. He spent the past year at the U.S. Military Academy Prep School and has announced is heading to Orono.
The 6-6 Maiwen was named Class AA North Player of the Year and was a Mr. Maine Basketball finalist in 2019. He spent the last year at Willston Northhampton Prep School in Massachusetts.
The Black Bears finished their 2019-2020 season at 9-22. Andrew Fleming (Matt’s brother) and Sergio El Darwich were the top scorers and both are seniors.
