South Portland Native Is Nation's Top Player

Former South Portland High School guard Maddie Hasson is the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division III National Player of the Year.

The Bowdoin College senior averaged 16.7 PPG, 7.9 RPG and 2 APG. Hasson was among the nation’s leaders in shooting 61.7% in field goals.

Hasson and her (27-2) Polar Bears team won the NESCAC conference title and a spot in the D-III sweet 16 before the NCAA canceled tournament play because of the coronavirus situation.

She is the third Bowdoin player to win the national award – Eileen Flaherty (2007) and Kate Kerrigan (2018).
