Bangor Area Schools Create A Schoolgirl Ice Hockey Team

The Penobscot Pioneers set schoolgirl hockey history Thursday afternoon at Penobscot Ice Arena in Brewer. The high school hockey team practiced for the first time and became the first high school girls ice hockey team north of the Augusta area.

The team is made up of student athletes from Bangor, Brewer, Hampden, Hermon, John Bapst, Old Town and Orono. 18 players were on the ice practicing under the guidance of head coach Michael Keim. He is also the boys lacrosse coach at Bangor.

The girls ice hockey season begins a week earlier than the boys season. The Penobscot Pioneers will play their first ever game on Black Friday, November 25th vs Greely.
