UMaine Hockey Has A Covid Positive Test

Weekend Games Will Not Be Played

There’s a positive covid test result in the UMaine men’s hockey program and that means this weekend’s games at UMass Lowell are postponed. Players are now in quarantine.

“Every step we have taken to prepare for our winter sports season has prioritized the safety of our student-athletes, coaches and athletic staff and our Maine communities,” says UMaine President Joan Ferrini-Mundy. “The testing and contact tracing strategies in support of our Division I athletics program are working and the university is already taking steps to limit the spread of infection.”

“We are very proud of our men’s Black Bear hockey team and will be providing all of our impacted players and staff with support during their quarantine period.”  –  UMaine Release

The Black Bears played their first two games of the season last weekend at the University of New Hampshire, splitting the two game series.

UM officials say all team activities have been paused for quarantine for 10 days.

The UMaine women’s hockey team will proceed with its weekend games at Providence.
