Houlton, Maine – August 19, 2023 — The Houlton/GHCA Cross Country Team once again demonstrated their commitment to community and environmental stewardship during their annual Trail Service Day. The team engaged in a thorough clean-up around Houlton High School’s greenhouse, soccer field, and the greater bird farm property.
Since 2013, the team has made it a tradition to devote at least one Saturday each year during their season to enhance, preserve, and beautify their school’s campus and the adjacent trails that wind through the Bird Farm property. These trails are open to the public, emphasizing the team’s dedication to sharing this natural resource with the community.
Coach Chris Rines, organizer for the annual cleanup, expressed his pride in the team’s unwavering commitment. “Our cross country athletes not only excel on the trails, but they also understand the importance of giving back to the community. They learn values of hard work, selflessness, and taking pride in their home course. It’s always a pleasure to provide this opportunity for our kids to make a positive impact in our community.”
