UMaine senior Blanca Millan is one of 10 semi-finalists for the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award. It’s the second year of the national award, sponsored by ‘Her Hoop Stats’ website. It is a site that specializes in covering women’s college basketball.
Hammon is currently an assistant coach for the San Antonio Spurs and many people in the game think she will be the first woman to be a head coach in the NBA. After playing her college ball at Colorado State, Hammon went on to star in the WNBA as a six time all star.
Millan is starring for the Black Bears, leading America East in eight stat catagories. The Black Bears are 11-1 in conference play and 14-1 overall.
The Becky Hammon Award covers players from 26 mid-major conferences in the nation. The winner will be announced in late March.
