Turns out there will not be a high school football spring season afterall. The Maine Principals’ Association football committee voted on Thursday to not proceed with a spring season.
Reasons include the fact that tackle football is still considered a high-risk sport according to state and CDC guidelines. The football committee also did not want to impinge on the traditional spring high school sports season. The MPA has made spring sports a priority because the 2020 spring season got wiped out by the covid 19 situation.
Football did get in a 7-on-7 non contact season back in the fall and at that time officials left open the possibility of playing games in the spring and perhaps extending the season into June/July.
Now the football community is hoping the things will be clear for a traditional season in the fall.
