No Fans Allowed For Bowdoin NCAA Games

Decision Made To Play Without Fans In Gym

When the Bowdoin College women’s basketball team hosts the NCAA D-III Sectional on Friday and Saturday in Brunswick the games will now be played without spectators.

Bowdoin joins fellow NESCAC conference teams, Amherst and Tufts, who are also hosting NCAA games in the decision to have only operations personnel and administrative staff for the games. It is being done because of the COVID-19 situation.

At the Brunswick campus, there will be two games on Friday night and then a Sectional championship game on Saturday. The winner moves on to the NCAA D-III final four.

BRUNSWICK, Maine – After careful consideration, Bowdoin College has made the decision to conduct this weekend’s NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Sectional without spectators. Only credentialed game operations personnel and administrative staff will be permitted to attend games held in Morrell Gymnasium on Friday and Saturday, March 13-14.

The College reached the decision after monitoring recent developments with COVID-19 in the New England region and consulting with both on and off-campus medical providers. Although recognizing that it cannot replace the experience of being in Morrell Gymnasium this weekend, all three games will be broadcast live on the Northeast Sports Network with the Bowdoin games carried locally on WCME Radio (99.5 FM/900 AM).
