NMCC Students Receive Community Award

Aroostook County—Northern Maine Community College recently received a Community Impact award from the American Red Cross.  A number of students who live on campus joined the Home Fire Preparedness public awareness campaign.  The campaign, which was orchestrated by Cary Medical Center, brought together several partners to help the Red Cross with their goal of reducing deaths and injuries from home fires by 25% over a five year period.

Together, the partners supported the free installation of about 1,000 smoke alarms in homes throughout Aroostook County.  Students were trained how to install the equipment and were given specific locations for the installations.
