Comeback Sunday For Two Teams

A championship day filled with stunning comebacks in the Maine Independent Baseball League. The RiverDogs won the 19U division, coming back from a 7-0 deficit. Motor City won the 17U title after making a five run comeback.

The action took place Sunday afternoon at Morton Field in Augusta with games live-streamed on WHOU.live

The MIBL was formed in June when many other baseball leagues decided not to play this summer. The league included 30 teams around the state with a 14 game regular season schedule and a playoff week.

MIBL 17U Champion Motor City

MIBL 17U  Motor City 6  Turner 5:  Motor City claimed the 17U championship, roaring back with two outs in the 5th inning with five runs. Casey Downs, Mason Hopkins, Kaden Robert and Matt Seymour delivered the key RBIs in the comeback.

Silas Graham came on in relief to pitch Motor City to the win on the mound.

Matt Wallingford, Garrett Mollica, Cole Brown and Ryan Thibault all had two hits for Turner.

Motor City finishes summer play with a 17-2 record. The South Region champ Turner Bandits finish 16-4.

MIBL 19U  RiverDogs 8  Mid Coast 7:  After knocking off the #2 and #3 seeds earlier in the playoff week, Mid Coast was on its way to knocking off #1, leading the RiverDogs 7-0 after four innings. The Dogs came back with a five run 5th inning and then grabbed the lead in the bottom of the 6th.

Trailing 7-5 in the 6th, Charlie Spiegel blasted a solo home run and later in the inning Sam Economy ripped a triple that scored the tying and go-ahead runs.

Gavin Partridge came on in relief to get the win in relief.

Dylan Abbott and Reid Gagnon had two hits each for Mid Coast.

The RiverDogs finish at 13-3. Mid Coast ends with an 8-10 record.
