McFarlane Win Downeast Metro By 1

Lefty Wins First Maine Tourney In 2020

Cape Elizabeth golfer Reese McFarlane played just a couple of tournaments in his senior spring season for the University of North Carolina Wilmington before covid-19 forced the cancellation of the NCAA season.

Playing in the first major amateur tournament back here in Maine, McFarlane wins the Downeast Metro Tournament, firing a 1-over par 71 at Kebo Valley Golf Course in Bar Harbor Sunday afternoon. McFarlane fired a 68 Saturday at Bangor Municipal Golf Course in round one for a two-day total of 139.

Former Bangor High School and now Duke University golfer Drew Powell finished one shot back, shooting a 73 at Kebo Valley and a 67 at Bangor Muni for a two-day total of 140.

The lefty McFarlane got hot on the back nine at Kebo, firing birdies on four straight holes (11th, 12th, 13th and 14th). The Downeast Metro title adds to an already impressive resume for McFarlane. He won a Class B Individual State Golf Title, a New England Amateur Golf Championship in 2018 and was Maine Amateur Championship runnerup last year.
