UMaine Hockey Gets Good & Bad News

Home Opening Series Called Off

University of Maine hockey finally got a decision on whether or not there will be a season. That decision includes good news and bad news.

The opening weekend series at Alfond Arena in Orono scheduled for this Friday and Saturday will not be played. But, the Black Bears can play next weekend at UConn in a two-game series.

UMaine president Joan Ferrini-Munday made that decision on Thursday.

“We are incredibly proud of our student athletes and very much want to see our Maine Black Bears begin their winter seasons. We are assessing each opportunity for our teams to compete within the context of rising COVID case counts and the threat of community transmission.

“We are working with our athletic conferences, UMaine Athletics, our safety professionals and stakeholders to determine next steps for our teams.”  –  Statement of President Joan Ferrini-Mundy

The UMaine women’s hockey team will play its season opening games on Friday and Saturday, scheduled at Holy Cross in Worecester, Massachusetts.

UMaine officials caution that all schedules are subject to change based on local conditions and guidelines.
