Vachon Gets New 4-Year Contract

UMaine Coach Signs New Deal

UMaine women’s basketball coach Amy Vachon and the school have agreed to terms on a new four-year contract that keeps her in Orono through June of 2025.

Vachon took over as interim coach in March of 2018 and later signed a four-year deal. This new contract will replace the existing deal.

“Thank you to President Joan Ferrini-Mundy and Director of Athletics Ken Ralph for their belief in me and Maine women’s basketball,” says Vachon. “Being the head coach at my alma mater is something I have and will continue to take great pride in. Our players, staff, and coaches will continue to strive for excellence on the court, in the classroom, and in the community.” – UMaine Release

Vachon is a three-time America East Conference Coach of the Year. Her Black Bear teams have a record of 94-42, including 62-16 vs conference opponents.

Her team lost in the AE title earlier this month, preventing the Bears from getting a spot in the NCAA Tournament. UMaine finished shortened covid season with a 17-3 record.
