Mid Coast Team Wins 6 Straight Games To Claim Championship

Rock Coast Rip Tide, a team made up of Camden Hills High School and Oceanside HS players, captured the Maine Junior American Legion State Championshp Monday night at Mansfield Stadium. And they did it dramatic fashion.

Trailing the Ware Butler Messalonskee Eagles 1-0 with two outs in the bottom of the 7th inning, Elias Libby delivered an infield hit that brought in the tying run. Connor Calderwood followed with a hit to leftfield that scored Cam Brown to give Rock Coast the walkoff win.

Calderwood, who had been dealing with a hip injury, not only drove in the winning run, he pitched a complete game, giving up just five hits and one run. He was named the tournament Most Valuable Player.

The Rip Tide team lost its opening game of the tourney to Topsham 7-5 and the rolled to six straight wins to capture the title. The last two victories came against the Messalonskee team that had been undefeated in the tourney.

The eight team, double elimination tournament featured Junior Legion players age 13 to 17.
